Bunnies!

Well, my apologies for my lack of posts. Life has been hectic with 4-5 Dr.'s appointments a week. The bunnies are about 10 weeks old and we are in full swing of finding them homes. They are pretty big and eat through about 6 pounds of food a week! While trying to find the babies homes, my hubby & I have been looking for a house of our own (we rent currently) and we made an offer, which just got accepted yesterday! So new homes for all of us.. not just the bunnies! I can't seem to find all the bunny pics, so I'll put up some that I found that are more recent.. and I'll take a few more tomorrow!

Sorry about the long time in between post... but I was in the hospital this past sunday through wednesday... turns out my neck pain and dizziness were strokes! 3 of them total, all in my cerebellum... I am home already, but I do have some balance issues. Unfortunately, I do not know when my next bunny post will be, but my husband says he's been taking pictures for me. I'll get back to the bunnies hopefully in a week or so. Thank for your support!

Not a whole lot new these past two day. Due to my neck pains I was not able to spend as much time as I would like with the baby buns - but I made sure to take pictures & clips! I will say I have a treat for you readers (well, at least I think so..) - I got a very good video of a little bunny tongue! It's very cute and sure to make you smile! I also have a very cute clip of one of them chewing... but mom decided to jump on me and I dropped the camera - it's still cute though. I hope you enjoy these little clips as much as I do!

Ps. Still looking for homes! We found a home for 'Whitey' with YowlYY in the UK, but that's a little far away and I don't know if we can 'fed ex' our bunny like Rabbit G uy. Hopefully we'll put a blurb about them in our church bulletin this week....

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-nine

Thanks Trouble... but that doesn't make them go away.....

Well, today's post is more of question really, so maybe those of you out there who have raised baby bunnies can help answer my question. It seems that the babies have learned an 'adult' activity and now do this more frequently. I know nothing can happen right now, but it's a bad habit and it's a little embarrassing because they do this when people come over to visit. I assume this is natural, but I am surprised that they are learning this at such a young age! What can I do? Should I start to separate them already? They are still nursing. If anyone knows anything about this, please leave a comment!

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-eight

The babies just LOVE veggies! They get so excited when we bring them treats, and they all try to get around the bowl to eat... mom usually takes up most of the space though, so they have to bob their heads in, grab something and pull it further away. We had a gallon bag filled with carrots, celery, and broccoli - it only lasted like 4 days! Those little bunnies eat a lot! They certainly are healthy! We have also gone through about 10 pounds of food in the last 2 weeks since they have been eating solid food! I can see why bunnies are so lethal to gardens! What veggie carnage!

Not a whole lot going on these two days. My neck was particularly painful and I just laid low by watching tv - Rick Steve's travels to Ireland, the news (because of the 15 inches of snow we got), American Idol auditions, and The Moment of Truth. The little buns were very understanding and hung out with me for awhile on the couch. It's amazing how creatures can take your mind off of the pain. My hubby was kind enough to keep rotating different bunnies for me throughout these two days. Despite all there was to explore down stairs where we were, the little buns were sweet and thoughtful enough to stay by me.

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-five

Today the poor little buns didn't get to play as much as they normally do. With my neck aches, taking them out of the cage several times a day is a bit of a chore.. but being the wonderful little buns they are, didn't seem to mind too much. They also got a new food today -broccoli! At first they seemed startled by the smell, but soon after dug their little teeth into the green stuff. They will honestly eat anything I bet! Other foods they enjoy are -carrots, celery, and bananas especially (bananers are special treats!). You should hear them eat bananas! They make these cute little squishy sounds and their faces are a mess afterwards! I'll try and get some footage of that next time they get a banana.

Just a side note - even though I have 25 pet here at home (18 dwarf hamsters and 7 bunnies), while I wait for these videos to load, I often play Nintendogs & Hampsterz on my DS. Isn't that a little silly!?

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-four

This one eats like our hamsters! - Sit in the food!

Well, my apologies for such a long time in between posts, I have a severely pinched nerve in my neck which makes me dizzy and gives me a constant headache. Today I am feeling relatively ok, so I'm going to try and catch up on some posts for you all. Thank you for all the encouraging words!

Day twenty-four, the little buns are mischievous as always and never fail to amuse. They stay up stairs, which is a relatively quiet part of the house, so when there's a loud noise, they all quickly hop back into their cage. Well, apparently I blow my nose too loud, because it sent all of them rushing into their nest - actually, three of them hid on the other side of the box! Oops.

Well, they are rowdy as ever and are excited about everything - especially food! It's so fun to see them all rush to the food bowl and stick all their little faces in, or even sit in it! I also love the little munching sounds they make! It would put a smile on anyone's face.

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-three

Playtime!

Well, I finally broke down and bought an exercise pen today. My hubby and I haven't had the time to make one yet and those buns are restless (mama too)! The little bunnies need to run and that little hamster fence hardly holds them in for more than a few minutes. I really like the pen I got - I was much bigger than I expected! What you see in the pictures isn't the whole pen - half of it is wrapped around the other side of the cage.

The babies had an absolute ball when I put them in the pen! They ran around and around, in and out of their 'crinkle tube', and explored the little 'hut' I made out of my husband's shoe box. They had so much fun! I need to make a ramp for them to get safely in and out of the cage because I have the playpen hooked to their cage. Today I just put a bunch of towels over the ramp so no one's feet got caught. I will figure out something better later - plus I'm with them while they are out, as to prevent accidents ( injury wise, not potty wise).

The pen is pretty tall and all the panels are looped together so you don't have to click the panels together (much safer). The problem with this pen is that there are a lot of horizontal bars, not just vertical bars. This means that Mason, being the smart determined bunny she is, figured out that she can actually climb up the fence and hop out! I was very surprised when she did it right in front of me! I don't mind so much that she is out - she normally gets to run around that room without a pen. We bunny-proofed that room and she has a litter box out there too - it's just that it would be nice if she stayed in the pen so that we could let her run around a little more during the day by leaving her cage door open into the playpen. Well, either way the babies can play safely and run, mom too. I think I will look around for a pen with no/few horizontal bars so that mom can't get out, and then return this one a little later.

Baby Bunnies - Day Twenty-two

I love this little clip! This was taken yesterday, but I

forgot to post it! Our little trouble maker was very

interested in mom's corner shelf, so much so, that he

tips over trying to see on top of it!

New food for babies today! About twice a week I like to give the adult bunnies a few apple slices for a treat, and so far the babies have ignored the slices. When I was cutting the apples today, I made some smaller pieces and offered it to the little buns - they were quite excited! Most of them ate half of their piece... Mason (mom) was more than willing to eat any of the remnants the babies left.

A quick hello to all of my new readers! I hope that our little buns brighten your day a little bit - they certainly brighten mine! Thanks for all the comments! I really enjoy reading them!

And now back to your regularly scheduled cuteness...

They are still babies and they get tuckered

out a lot

Today they are eating a much more of mom's solid food. They also love eating timothy hay, and alfalfa hay especially. For some reason my bag of alfalfa hay doesn't have long strands of hay and there is a lot of really fine 'hay dust' in the bottom of the bag - I put some of that out for the babies and they went nuts! In an hour or so the whole bowl was gone. I bet mom is happy that the babies are interested in other types of food now!

One of them learned a new trick today. One learned that he could jump up onto mom's little corner ledge! He seemed rather proud of himself and was a little miffed when I tried to help him down. They are just like little toddlers!

Not much new today. I got them a little 'busy bunny' willow stick ball to play with and chew on. They like it a lot and one even took it into the ball into their box where they sleep. They are busy getting into everything and we have to watch them carefully when they are out of the cage because they want to go in every possible niche they can fit into. They like to sneak in and out of papa's cage (he has bigger slots on his cage then mama's cage so they like to visit him). I know it will take a little while, but I hope they figure out how the litter box works - it would be very nice if they were litter box trained when we try to find them homes. : )

Baby Bunnies - Day Eighteen & Nineteen

Ahhh! Bright light!

Well, yesterday the babies figured out where mom's food is and how to nibble on it. Today some of them learned how to use the water bottle. A few of them still need to find it - but they all learn quickly. Mom gets super stressed out by them now that they hop all over the cage. The only safe place she can sit is on the little corner ledge that sits off of the floor. We are thinking of ways to give them more room... maybe we'll add some of those click-together wire storage cubes on a tarp so that they have a play area. We'll let you know how it goes. If anyone else has some suggestions, let me know.

Oh, also two of them have figured out how to get over the little play fence we use to try and keep track of them... I'll post a video of them escaping the fence tomorrow.

Baby Bunnies - Day Seventeen

Today when I came by to see the babies this afternoon, I noticed mom's food bowl was very empty. Normally there's a little something in it, especially since I feed mom like 3 times a day, so it was odd that the bowl was bare. So I put some food in the bowl, and much to my surprise - the babies stuck their faces in it! They could only eat a few little pieces, but they seemed pretty pleased to be eating like mom.

We make sure that everyone has lots of play time now - so mom can get away from the little buns, and so that the little buns can stretch their little bouncy legs. They are quite proficient at running now. We have that small hamster fence to keep them safe... but I'm sure they will figure out how to get out of it soon.

Baby Bunnies - Day Fourteen & Fifteen

This little one is helping me study ... she seems

rather interested in graphic design like me!

These little buns are VERY fluffy and now are very good at getting around. They can climb up little edges - like the edge of the dog bed, as well as their nesting box. They are getting so good at walking that they are starting to run a little now. To contain everyone, we've started to use our little hamster fences so we don't lose anyone. They will out grow those fences soon, but in the mean time they'll do.

Today I gave them some tiny dried papaya pieces - they nibbled on them but they are still not able to eat the whole little piece yet- just tiny tiny bites. All of the babies are just blossoming and we are starting to see their 'personalities'. Each one is very healthy and each are okay with being held and petted. It's hard to not become attached to the little guys - they are soo cute and sweet! I often call them my "mini muses" because I am just fascinated by them and love to learn about them. I also bring them down stairs in their doggie bed and they keep me company while I write these blogs or when I study.

I sincerely pray that we are able to find good homes for them all. I don't want them to end up at the humane society or at a pet shop, or even worse - given as 'Easter bunnies' and then neglected or "let go". People actually let their domestic bunnies "go" outside once the person is board with them. Domestic bunnies are bred to be pets- they are nothing like wild bunnies and will not survive. That scares me a lot, and I REALLY really hope to find these bunnies a great home. Well, I guess I can worry about that a little later....... *sigh*

Baby Bunnies - Day Thirteen

Everyone likes a good hug...

Now that they all can see, the babies are a little more willing to explore things. They can keep their eyes open as long as they like, but they are babies, and they get tired quickly. So far they have stayed in their nesting box in mom's cage - they haven't really wondered around there.

Well, today I found them checking out their cage on their own. They were very excited to nibble on pieces of timothy hay. They can't really eat the hay yet, but they really enjoy chewing on it. They will be nursing for a while still, but it's good that they are interested in solid food.

Baby Bunnies - Day Twelve

Today we bought the baby bunnies a little dog bed at Menards. Mason kept eating their cardboard nesting box and the babies often slept on the bottom of the box instead of on their towel. We'll see how it works. When we put them in it today they crawled around a little bit, but within a minute or two all of them fell sound asleep. They all seemed very comfy.

Today all of them are getting a little better at holding their eyes open a little longer. They seem intrigued with the world, but aren't in any rush to explore it all.

Baby Bunnies - Day Ten & Elven

Day ten brought a little more progress. We saw two more babies peeking their eyes open. Again, they don't keep them open very long, but they are working on it. They all are itching their eyes recently - I suppose it would be itchy having your eyelids part.0

On day eleven we found that everyone's eyes can open now! They are also getting better at holding them open for a longer time. Since they are still babies, they sleep a lot. They are all very healthy. The buns have also become rather expressive with their ears. One of them sniffed an apple slice that I had given to their mom, and that little baby's ears when flying straight up when he smelled the apple. It was very exciting to him. They also seem interested & are expressive when they get picked up or patted on the head. I'd have to say that watching those tiny ears pop up is one of my favorite things!

Baby Bunnies - Day Nine

Well, today the little buns started to try out their back feet. Previously, they got around by pulling themselves with their front paws, now they are tip-toeing on their back feet. This, however, makes them a little more shaky, so they tip over a lot.

We also have two of the babies who have started to peek their eyes open! They can't open them all the way, but they will open them for a few seconds then quickly shut them. It will take them a few days until they keep their eyes open longer. They are growing very fast!

Baby Bunnies - Day Seven

Happy one week old babies! I peeked back at my day one post and I am surprised at how much these little buns have grown! They are getting fuzzier and cuter by the day. Today I really noticed how white "pinky" is turning. He's finally to look much less pink. Also, they are getting a little better at not rolling over so much, and if they have they chance they will scoot to any place that is warm - mom, nest, your hand, up my sweater sleeves... I'm just excited for next week, because they say at about day 11 their eyes start to open, and by day 14/15, they are able to hop around a little. Should be a ton of fun!

he looked different from what he looked like

Baby Bunnies - Day Six

Not a lot of new developments today, just more fur, and they really like to scoot around. They are getting quite fuzzy and look more like bunnies now. Also, when you pick them up out of the nest, if you set them on the floor for a minute, they will be half-way across the room!

This is a video I took on day five. This little one

looks like he's dreaming of his own American Idol

audition! Well, at least I thought it was amusing. :)

See the ear action? If you touch them on their

head or 'beep' their nose, their little ears

wiggle. Their ears don't stand up yet though.

I read that doesn't happen until the end of week two.

Umm, mom's a little hungrier these days...

Pinky's white fur is more visible now. You can

also see his 'eye liner' which is a characteristic

of hoto bunnies like his dad.

Well, a little bit of news for today...

1. More fur...

2. A little more vocal today when woken up

3. Babies are starting to move their ears! If you touch their nose their ears go up a little. They can't keep their ears up for long, but they are definitely moving them.

4. Their eyelids are getting more defined as well as their ears.

Poor Pinky, kinda the odd bun out. I think it's

rather clear that Mason's (mom) genes are

the dominant ones!

Apparently it was warmer up my sleeve....

I like this little one a lot. He's my buddy & gives

me little kisses. He's got a little white streak on

his face, just like his mommy. None of the others

have that streak, but one does have a little white

diamond on it's forehead.

funny when with the other babies. : )

Baby Bunnies - Day Three

Day three - babies watch their first Packer game! Mason (mom) seemed like she needed a little time away from the kids, so I brought their box down stairs & we watched the playoffs. Well, I watched and the buns kept me company... their eyes are not open yet. One happily napped in my hand, curled up on my sweatshirt. It was nice. Again, not a whole lot of change today but they are definitely growing...

1. They have a little thin coat of fur! There's just a little layer of peach fuzz they are all getting! You can see their colors a little more as well.

2. Little buns are very active. They know how to dig and crawl, roll over, and they are getting slightly faster at it too! You have to watch out cause there's always one trying to sneak away!

3. I finally was able to get a picture of their fur, whiskers, and teeth... I hope you enjoy!

Baby Bunnies - Day Two

Hello! Let's take a look at day two! There wasn't a whole lot different today than yesterday really, but there were a few things I noticed.

1. Today a slight fur pattern/color showed up. Yesterday they were all pink. Today it looks like we have 4 colored and one white bun. They have a tiny tiny bit of fur.

2. I noticed that they have teeth already! One yawned and I saw front teeth - two on the top and two on the bottom! That was quite a surprise! They also have teeny whiskers!

3. These baby bunnies are even more mobile today! Even though their eyes are still closed, they can find their way back to the nest! One even was able to pull himself over the little cardboard edge! They seem quite smart.

As you can see, they aren't plain pink like

they were yesterday.

that the 4 dark ones (2 on both ends)will be dutch

Baby Bunnies - Day One

My husband and I love pets. Those of you who know this, are aware that our house looks like a pet shop. We have an entire living room lined with hamster cages for our many dwarf hamsters, and we also have two boy bunnies - or so we thought.

See, yesterday morning we found out that one of our bunnies is actually a girl. Both bunnies have their own cages but we often let them out to run together - we almost always supervise them because sometimes they don't get along. So, what tipped me off that Mason was a girl is when I found 5 baby bunnies in her cage on Thursday morning! Ahh!

Well, despite our initial shock, we think this will be a fun experience and we'd like to share it with you! So I will be taking pictures & telling you what we learn about them!

They attempted to make a nice line for us so that we

could see them all... the one on the bottom didn't feel

like joining though..

Ok, so day one -

1. I found the babies on the towel in Mason's cage, under a huge pile of fur. The fur freaked me out initially, but I did some research and that's what mom bunnies are supposed to do. They use their fur for a nest to keep the babies warm. So Mason is being a good mommy.

2. Babies are born hairless, sightless, and deaf. They are about 3-4 inches long and they have tiny claws. When you pick them up they squiggle around a lot and they also like to dig. They are also pretty good at scooting around their nest by pulling themselves with their front arms.

3. I read about making a nesting box for the babies. See, since they roll around soo much, it's good to cut a U shape out of a box so that mom can hop in and out to feed them, but it also prevents the babies from rolling out of the nest. After holding a little bun for a minute I realized why this box was important! They are very squirmy!

4. They do squeak a little bit, usually if one of them crawls on top of the other, or if Mason steps on them a little bit. They're ok if she does it because they have towels & fur below them and fur on top too. They also stay very toasty warm in their nest.

That's about all for day one. They don't do a whole lot right now. Oh, and Mason is fabulous. If we hadn't seen the fur pile, we would have never known she had babies. Her cage, the babies, and she herself were all nice and clean! Mason was happy to run around for over an hour that very morning.
